The workshop will take place at Carter Caves State Park in Kentucky. We will hike the trails and search for images in the caves and along the streams. You will capture the beauty in black and white film.
Black and white film (36 exposures) will be provided to the participants. There are 4 – 35mm cameras available to borrow (possibly 5). If you have your own 35mm camera you are welcome to bring it and I will provide the film. We will be using a 50mm lens to take our photographs; if you are using your own camera please bring a similar lens.
Taking pictures with film gives you a background for digital photography. It will provide you with the basics to set your camera and increases your confidence in composing your images and setting the exposures. The same rules apply to depth of field, composition, and lighting. To help prepare you for the day, upon registration you will receive information on black and white film photography.
The class will take place over 2 separate days.
Day 1: We will begin the day at 8:00a.m. meeting in the visitor center parking lot (directions and more details to follow once the date gets closer); from there we have a short session on shooting film. Instructions on how to use the cameras will be given prior to hiking out to the caves. Once your film is exposed, it will be collected and labeled. You may continue to hike and photograph the area using your digital camera after you have finished your roll of film. A picnic lunch will be provided.
Day 2: Will begin at 10:00a.m. at the studio of Pam DeCamp Photography in Wheelersburg, Ohio. During our follow-up session your images will be reviewed and critiqued. Suggestions on editing and printing will also be discussed. All participants will have the opportunity to print one or two of their images to take home (5×7 or 8×10). A light lunch will be provided.
